Balloon®
Students enter the 22' (6.7m) diameter Earth Balloon through an entrance
in the Pacific Ocean to learn about rain forests,
the "ring of fire", time zones, population clusters, migration,
man's impact on the earth and endless
other topics. The Earth Balloon is set up in your
school's gym and offers students a unique way to learn about our ever changing
earth. The Earth Balloon will visit your school as a traveling
enrichment program, or can be
purchased as a complete module.

Constructed from durable satin polyester, all
seams triple stitched.

24 panels or gores, one every 15 degrees longitude, beginning at the Prime
Meridian. One panel representing each hour of the day, or time zone*.

Velcro floor seam for quick emergency exit.

*Time zones do not necessarily run every 15 degrees
longitude and therefore the seams represent time zones in a
general manner. Actual time zones will vary somewhat from the seams on the
Earth Balloon.

Scale: 1 inch = 30 miles. At this scale the moon would be 2 football fields
away and the sun would be 49 miles away.

At the scale of the Earth Balloon, planes would fly 1/4 inch above
the surface of the globe.

At this scale 99% of the earth's atmosphere would be within 1" of the globe's
surface.

At this scale the earth's inner core would be a 2 1/2 foot ball of solid
iron and it's outer core of molten iron would be 12 feet in diameter.

At this scale the amount of rain forest destroyed annually would equal an
area approximately 4.2 inches square.

At this scale the space shuttle would fly 5 1/2 inches (165 miles) from the
globe's surface.
